FOREST CITY, May 18, 2017 – Assistant Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing Tim Bascom has earned tenure at Waldorf University, being promoted to Associate Professor.
Bascom has been a member of the faculty at Waldorf University since August 2013.
“We are extremely proud to have someone of Tim’s caliber teaching at Waldorf University,” said Waldorf University Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Vince Beach. “Tim plays an instrumental role in advancing our creative writing activities by spearheading the Waldorf University Distinguished Writers Series, The Waldorf Literary Review, and the annual Top of Iowa Conference high school writing contest. Students pursuing writing as a career benefit not only from Tim’s educational background but from his wealth of experience.”
Bascom holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from The University of Iowa, a Master of Arts in English Literature from The University of Kansas, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Wheaton College.
Before coming to Waldorf, Bascom taught creative writing at Drake University and at the University of Missouri. The author of a novel, a collection of essays, and two prize-winning memoirs (Chameleon Days and Running to the Fire), Bascom’s essays, stories, and poems have been published in numerous literary journals including The Florida Review, North American Review, Natural Bridge, Spoon River Poetry Review, The Missouri Review, Slant, Image, Boulevard, and Creative Nonfiction.
His work has also been selected for the anthologies Best Creative Nonfiction and Best American Travel Writing. In addition, he writes features or personal-experience pieces for regional and popular-interest magazines such as DSM (Des Moines city magazine), Dynasty In-Flight Magazine (China Airlines), The Kansas City Star Magazine, The Christian Science Monitor, and Modern Bride.
